First Baptist Church of Dayton is a Baptist Church in the heart of downtown Dayton . We are attempting to be the “body of Christ” in a particular location.  While we honor the individual’s commitment to Jesus Christ, we are conscious that we are a community of faith.  Our focus is on providing the best possible training for our members to “practice” the faith.  We believe that “practices” are of the essence of Christianity.  Among the essential practices are worship, witness, pray, service, and stewardship.

First Baptist Church of Dayton belongs to American Baptist Churches U.S.A. ABC USA has headquarters in Valley Forge , PA. FBC Dayton is a member of the ABC Ohio Region and the Dayton Area Baptist Association.

At First Baptist Church we have covenanted together to read, hear, and incorporate the teachings of Scripture in our daily lives.  Our concern is that we love God with all our heart and all our mind.  With passion and intellectual rigor we are becoming more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.  Please know that you are welcome to join us in this exciting journey of faith.

holy week

The events of Holy Week recall the last days of Jesus’ life, from his entry into Jerusalem on a donkey amid crowds with palm branches through his time in the Garden, arrest, and Trial to his crucifixion. Take this journey at First Baptist Church this year, through worship, music, and quiet reflection.

Maundy Thursday w/ Footwashing & Holy Communion

Thursday, April 17th @ 7:00PM

We commemorate the supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion, when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and instituted the Lord’s Supper. With the washing of feet and the celebrating of the sacrament of Holy Communion, we dramatize the servanthood of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday Walk for Peace & Justice

Friday, April 18th @ 12-2:30pm

Beginning at Courthouse Square (near 3rd and Main St.)

This annual event sponsored by the Dayton Christian Connection brings together committed Christians throughout the Miami Valley. We walk through downtown Dayton, stopping 14 times in remembrance of the Stations of the Cross of Jesus Christ. At each station, we highlight a contemporary social concern, and call each other to live into the just and inclusive community Christ came to create.  We walk, rain or shine!

Good Friday - Tenebrae Service

Friday, April 18th @ 7:00 PM

A service of Tenebrae is based on a twelfth-century late night service and is an extended meditation on the passion of Christ. Along with the readings, there will be the act of extinguishing the candles, and the stripping of the altar. The altar will then remain bare until Easter Sunday morning.

Holy Saturday - Easter Vigil

Saturday, April 19th @ 5:ooPM

at Christ Episcopal Church

21 W. First St.

Easter Sunday - Christ is risen!  ALLELUIA!

Sunday, April 20th @ 10:30AM

On this day we celebrate the resurrection!  Everyone, especially children, are encouraged to arrive early and help decorate the wooden cross with flowers. Some loose flowers will be provided, but feel free to bring some of your own so that a poignant symbol of new life coming forth from death will emerge before our eyes as we declare that Christ has risen!  Our Cherub Choir kids will be singing, the FBC Brass will be playing, and a couple from our church will pass through the waters of baptism!  Join us on this holiest of days!  Christ is risen!  Alleluia!

(Please note that there is no Sunday school at 9am or during Second Hour today.)

You Are Invited

When you attend First Baptist Church of Dayton, you will find that we are intentional about our commitment to read, to study, to preach, and to apply the teachings of the Bible. Our pastor will interpret the Scripture using the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the academy, and the positive principles of critical biblical scholarship. We celebrate together the Bible as the church's book inspired by the Holy Spirit.

You will find compelling preaching of the Word. Using resources from every possible discipline, our pastors bring the Word of God to bear on our lives in real, prophetic, at times comforting, at other times disturbing, and at all times, in faithful ways.

You will find a church that deliberately accents our distinctive Baptist ways, principles, and traditions. We are committed to the priesthood of the believer, the integrity and truthfulness of the Bible, free will of each human being, local autonomy of the church, ecumenical and interfaith ministry, separation of church and state, and obedient discipleship.

You will find a community of believers who don't insist on labels and a particular set of dogmas or beliefs. First Baptist Church members come from a diverse community of faith. Together we are struggling to be faithful to Jesus Christ.

You will discover a church practicing liturgy across a broad range of musical, artistic, and spiritual venues.

You are invited to worship at First Baptist Church each Sunday morning at 10:30.
