The Growth Committee was established to promote membership and participation in church activities, and to spread the word about First Baptist Church.
In 2005 our Pastors participated in the Lite 99.9 Downtown Appreciation Luncheon. We also hosted at our church a Big Band Concert starring Pam Noah. After the concert an ice cream social was enjoyed by all.
Spring and Fall Golf Outings were enjoyed by participants, along with our annual July 4 th cookout on church grounds prior to the City of Dayton fireworks display.
New and exciting community and church activities are being planned for the coming year. Come and join us for worship and fellowship at “The Church on the River” – First Baptist Church of Dayton.
The Board of Missions shall lead the congregation in the expression of the abundant life of Jesus Christ in a visible way through mission action, financial support, public witness and awareness of the challenges of mission in our world.
We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses! On Thursday and Friday, seven witnesses took part in the
European Baptist Federation anti-trafficking workgroup meeting right here in our home. It is easier to run the race that is set before us having been with Lauran (Intl. Ministries), Vladimir (Moldova), Marion (UK), Sven and Maria (Sweden), Elena (Italy), and Janet (Botswana-No, it’s not in Europe, but she’s doing an internship in Italy.). We planned our network-wide meeting in Vienna, Austria, in November, and we shared about the various ways we are ministering in our respective countries in the areas of trafficking prevention and outreach to victims.
On Sunday morning, Vladimir and I accompanied Lauran as she preached at the Baptist church in Pordenone, Italy. The three of us were amazed when Pastor Giuseppe sat with us at lunch and described his church’s growing participation in hospitality to victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation who have completed their Italian-sponsored programs of protection. Giuseppe and Vladimir, within the course of 30 minutes, developed a strategy for an exchange program between Italian and Moldovan social workers, both to do outreach to Moldovan women trafficked into prostitution in Italy and to do prevention work in Moldovan schools. Because Giuseppe’s church is an active part of the network of churches and social service organizations in the community, Giuseppe feels sure the project will be supported by the local government. Lauran and I just sat back with our heads in the clouds!
Then, there are 22 more witnesses in the US who filled the cloud around us. These are 22 individuals and/or families who are partnering in our support through the 360 Web-based Matching Grant Program. Thanks to all of you! These gifts helped us grow from about 31% of our full support goal to 36.9% in 6 weeks!
We look forward to being reminded of even more of you who make up the crowd of witnesses who partner with us in prayer and financial support as we visit churches July through September! We still have some availability during the week, and we would love to meet with you and your church or a small group of interested folks in your community! Drop us an email to schedule something! We will be based out of Ohio, but we already have plans to visit some in Indiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C. and possibly New York.
Join us in the clouds!
Your missionaries in Italy,
Debbie along with Jim, Luke & Ben
Thank you to all who worked so hard on our Rebuilding Together Dayton Project on Saturday, April 26, 2008. We had 40 people who came out to give an old home a facelift and the owner a sense of pride. The house looked beautiful when it was completed! A two story home was completely painted on the outside, yard cleaned, flowers planted, fence line cleaned out, an old tree pulled down, a huge dumpster filled with debris, a new light fixture and mailbox put up, and a really challenging new porch roof stripped of 5 layers of shingles and replaced with new. It was a long day, with some sore muscles, but truly worth the work when you see the results—not only of the house, but of the amazing Christian love that was shown to this family and to their neighbors from First Baptist Church of Dayton! Thanks again to all who gave up their Saturday. You are truly a source of pride for our church and our community!
FBC is a member congregation and was excited to participate in the 2007 successes. We had 31 church members work on the FBC house. Put it together with the work of all other participants in the Dayton area and we can truly say the Spirit of the Lord moved among us and supported us all. For more information about Rebuilding Together contact amy@rtdayton.org
Two crews with FBC volunteers worked on the FBC house and some joined the women's house. Altogether Rebuilding Together Dayton rehabbed 30 homes with 1200 volunteers across the Dayton area.

Chancel Choir rehearsals resume on Thursday, September 4, 2008 with a potluck dinner and rehearsal. Celebration Ringers (handbells) will resume on September 11, 2008. Both groups are open with no auditions required. Celebration Ringers do need to have some music reading ability. Participation in music provides an opportunity for fun, fellowship and the offering of a unique ministry at First Baptist Church.
Along with the regular Sunday services, we plan to have a special musical service on November 9, 2008 honoring the memory of Madonna Goss who served First Baptist Church for many years as organist and music director. Alan Kimbrough, Greg Land and Debbie Lindley, along with the Chancel Choir will offer a variety of special music in Madonna Goss’ honor.
On December 14 we plan to offer the Christmas section of Handel’s “Messiah” with Chancel Choir, Soloists and the Chancel Orchestra.
With all of the above there is room for all. Please make 2008 the year that you join in the music at First Baptist Church.
Ray Landis
Director of Music
The Board of Deacons shall attend to the spiritual welfare of the church members and other persons wishing to associate with First Baptist Church.
Members of the Board of Trustees focus their energies on the areas of finance, human resources, and the maintenance and operation of the church's physical plant. The church building and all of its details are one of the City of Dayton 's historically significant structures. Maintaining everything from the foundation to the rooftop requires a group of people that are part craftsman or interested in the detail of working with a historic structure. This committee also insures that all church positions vital to the day-to-day operation are filled with motivated and qualified individuals. Additionally, the Board of Trustees manages the financial stewardship program where resources are identified and budgeted for short and long term church and community purposes.
