Volunteers Needed for “Bucket Brigade”
On Monday, March 31 a crew of technicians from Peebles Herzog Organ Company will be in the FBC sanctuary to begin cleaning our pipe organ. This will involve removing and washing the pipes, and cleaning the wind chests and organ chamber. The total cost of this project is a little over $30,000. We can reduce the cost by around $7,000 by volunteering our time and labor to help in “bucket brigade” fashion to remove and return the pipes. The technicians will do all heavy lifting and technical work. We have enough volunteers for March 31, but need some helping hands on April 1-2-3 from 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM, and on April 4 from 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM. We will also need volunteers for the week of April 7 with times to be announced later. Call 222-4691 if you can help.
New Member Reception
We will “officially” welcome our new members at a reception next Sunday, April 6, after worship service.
Benefit Recital April 6th
Just a reminder that UD Music Intern Jessica Cole will give a benefit recital featuring past music intern, Shannon LaRue, next Sunday, April 6th at 2:00 PM. You’re invited to come hear wonderful German music and other great genres such as American Spirituals and Italian opera in the FBC sanctuary! The recital will be less than an hour in length with a small reception following the performance. There will be voluntary donations accepted at the end of the recital.

Rebuilding Together Dayton Day April 26th
This will be FBC’s fourth year for working on a house for Rebuilding Together Dayton. Please set aside this day to help if you can—whether it’s for 4 hours or 8 hours. If you talk with anyone who has participated in the past, they will confirm that they have had fun and gained a sense of joy and satisfaction from the experience. This year we will be working on a house on Auburn Avenue in Dayton, painting the exterior of the house (smaller than last year’s house), repairing concrete steps, cleaning up the yard, removing a large tree stump, replacing the porch roof, planting flowers, and repairing a porch railing, the back door and fence gate. Our work day will begin at 8:00 AM until done. This year you can sign up on-line at RTDAYTON.ORG and then let Linda Thomson, our volunteer coordinator, know you have registered. Your help is needed regardless of your age and talent (youth are welcome and encouraged), so please come join us. If you have any questions contact any of the following: Linda Thomson (Volunteer Coordinator), Harold West (House Capt. Assistant), or Daryl Bogan (House Capt.).
Pay Day Lending
Thank you First Baptist Church!!! Your many signed petitions have been heard by the state legislators as they are holding hearings on the pending legislation. The Pay Day Lending industry is fighting the new legislation, and your support needs to be seen and heard. Churches from the Greater Dayton area are inviting the local state, city and county representatives to an Action Meeting at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 8 at St. Benedict the Moor Church, 519 Liscum Road. The representatives will be asked to publicly give support to the 36% APR legislation (from 391% APR). City and County commissioners agree that a limit of 36% is a necessity and want our support to help convince the state legislators. Please make plans to attend the Action Meeting and bring as many persons with you as possible. Arrive early, registration begins at 5:30. We need to show as much support as possible. Questions? Contact Karen Reed at 776-1983 or Roger Stephens at 470-1972 or via email at Jsteph40@aol.com.
