What is the Bible?

with Rev. Jason Alspaugh
Sunday Mornings @ 11:30am-12:15pm
September 10 – October 15
1st Floor – CHAPEL

This fall we will be using a course published through the Massachusetts Bible Society called, What is the Bible?  In this six-week class, students will gain/refresh their understanding of the Bible through an overview of its stories, how it’s organized, how texts were chosen, how it’s interpreted, and the contributions of archaeology.  This class is open to all, no matter how long you’ve been in the church.

NOTE: A Student Textbook for this class will be provided, and so we would ask that those intending on participating in the class sign-up so that we can order the appropriate amount of books.  Email to reserve a copy.

The visual arts have contributed much to the life of the Church over the centuries, inspiring theological reflection and enriching our worship.  In this class we will create our own works of art, and explore the possibilities of art as theology, liturgy, and spiritual practice.  In particular, we will be looking at themes for the Season of Advent.  People of every skill level are welcome to join in; you need not be a professional artist.  All are welcome!

For more information regarding Christian Education at First Baptist please contact Rev. Jason Alspaugh at or Diane Charron (Chair, Board of Christian Education).

When you come to First Baptist Church you will find an open table.
All are welcome; none are excluded.
