Adult Discipleship

Baptist Thought & Practice

Led by Rev. Dr. Kent Berghuis
Sunday Mornings @ 11:30am-12:15pm
September 9 – October 28
1st Floor – Chapel

Learning where we came from helps us understand who we are and what we might become. How well do we know our Baptist roots? This class will explore the beginnings of the Baptist movement as heirs of the Anabaptists and their “radical Reformation” in Europe. Much of the material will relate to Pastor Kent’s visit this summer to Switzerland for the Baptist World Alliance gathering. We will also explore how the notion of the freedom of conscience influenced the first Baptists in America, eventually leading to many of the freedoms we now take for granted. As we reflect on these courageous religious dissidents, we will be emboldened to promote freedom and peace in our day with a similar passion.
