Collecting Our Stories

Led by Donna Miles Curry & Jerome Stueart
Sundays, September 8 – 29 @ 11:30am-12:15pm

1st Floor – CHAPEL

Getting ready for our 200th Anniversary, we want to teach people how to collect the stories of church members, and family members.  This will be a four Sunday class. You will learn how to come up with good questions, how to interview someone, how to keep the stories coming, how to record and upload your recordings.  Ultimately, we’d like to build a team of 6-10 people or more that can help us collect stories over the next year that will become a part of our 200th celebration and our permanent church history archives online. The first Sunday is the overview of everything you need to know to confidently record oral histories.  The second Sunday helps you develop good questions, helps you with the flow of conversation.  The last two Sundays are a demonstration and a practice.  It’s easy, and helpful to our church. It’s also useful for you if you want to record the oral histories of your families!

“Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again”
by Rachel Held Evans

Led by Pastor David Coggins & Pastor Jason Alspaugh
Sunday Mornings @ 11:30am-12:15pm
September 8 – November 3
1st Floor – CHOIR ROOM

“Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay.  Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries.  The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.”  Join us as we journey through Scripture with Rachel Held Evans as our spiritual guide!  (NOTE: Participants are encouraged, but not required, to obtain a copy of Evans’ book, Inspired, for this class.  If you need assistance getting a copy, please let Pastor Jason know (jalspaugh@fbcdayton.org)).
