Lessons from Slow Church
Sundays @ 11:30am
Beginning January 8th
1st Floor – CHAPEL
Led by Rev. Jason Alspaugh
As we ring in the New Year 2017, after a rather divisive 2016 in our country, it seems good to take time to think about how we form and maintain community, particularly as a church. For the community we create here at First Baptist is certainly a part of our witness to the world beyond us.
To aid us in this conversation, we’ll consider some of the insights presented in Slow Church: Cultivating Community in the Patient Way of Jesus. This book is “inspired by the language and philosophy of the Slow Food and other Slow movements” and may challenge us “to rethink the ways in which we share life together in our church communities.” Each time we gather, we will center ourselves, prayerfully reflect on Scripture, and discuss some of the insights & questions from Slow Church. In many ways, this is class about the spiritual practice for forming Christian community.
NOTE: Reading Slow Church is recommended but not required for participation.
