FIRST NOTES

Music at First Baptist

We had a great Fall and Advent season this year.  We started by welcoming our student interns as they returned, new Chancel Choir members and new Celebration Ringers.  We celebrated All Saints Sunday by musically saluting Ralph Vaughan Williams with Alan Kimbrough, the Chancel Brass Ensemble and Chancel Choir.

On December 9 we offered our Christmas Concert Sunday with the music of Gustav Holst and John Rutter, welcoming back our friends of the Springfield Symphony, along with the FBC winds and brass and the Chancel Choir.

On Christmas Eve we celebrated our Savior’s joyous birth with flute, bassoon, harp, guitar, organ and piano and joyous singing of our favorite carols.

On February 3, 2008 we will celebrate Transfiguration Sunday with our annual Jazz service.  The Chancel Choir will be joined by the 15-piece FBC Jazz Ensemble as we swing in the sanctuary.

After a full Lenten and Easter season we will celebrate the fifth Sunday of Easter by again welcoming our friends from the Springfield Symphony with the FBC winds and brass and Chancel Choir by offering the Coronation Mass K.317 of Mozart.

With all we have to do, we can use all the help that we can get.  Celebration Ringers meet at 6:30 and Chancel Choir at 7:30 on Thursday evenings.  Please join us!
