2012 Art Shows at FBCD

In late January, we will have a show of Sarajevo art from high school students. Both sculpture and drawing—some pretty amazing stuff! In April, Len and Patrice Roberts (father and daughter) will do a show for us. Len helped with the peace project we did a couple of years ago. In June, the MEEC show—Living Green—will be moved to FBC for the rest of the summer. Quite a beginning to the year!

New Art Display in Fellowship Hall

The theme of the art work is RESTORATION. People were encouraged to work with faith, health, and environment as topics of their pieces. Because MEEC is the Marianist Environmental Education Center, most tend to use outdoor themes. They are celebrating 25 years of prairie restoration this year - one prairie near 675 was destroyed by the building of the highway. The other prairie, on County Line Road, was originally a swamp. Kodak took the water to Montgomery Co. and made a pond with it (no longer legal to do this) so the MEEC people turned the area into a beautiful prairie! There are 63 artists represented in the show. Some are for sale - see the listing available or contact Janet Lasley 433-6998. The show will be up until August 15th.

About the Art Pieces on Grounds of FBC

Nicholas Voegele is a Sinclair College graduate and was a student artist at Blue Sky 2009.  According to Nicholas, the art “towers” on the grounds of FBC stemmed from a collaboration of minds.  They came together through discussion between Nicholas, his construction crew, and Blue Sky's Rodney Veal. The approach was to take material from a stack that had been donated and apply it to a center structure, following patterns in a random way. The towers took about a day and a half of work to complete.
